Small balcony refurbishment

It is so important for patients receiving chemotherapy treatment to have a space to relax during their treatment visits. This is why we wanted to refurbish the small balcony outside the chemotherapy suite at Leicester Royal Infirmary. Patients now have a quiet place to go away from the waiting room, treatment room and ward areas.

The refurbishment included purchasing new furniture, adding safety fencing, adding plants to bring some colour to the area and repainting some of the garden furniture that was already there. At Christmas we also went to the ward to put up lights on the balcony to offer patients some festive cheer and normality at such a difficult time.

This project would not have been made possible without the fantastic support of the GEMS donors and our amazing volunteers. Thank you!!

We were due to refurbish the large balcony in April 2020 but due to the Covid-19 breakout that hasn’t been possible. Our plan is to continue with this refurbishment as soon as we are told it is safe to do so. Click here to find out more about our plans for the new refurbishment.
