Large Balcony Refurbishment
On 4th April 2020 we were due to begin the refurbishment of the large balcony in the Chemotherapy suite at Leicester Royal Infirmary. This was obviously not possible due to Covid-19 restrictions which was incredibly disappointing for all involved. However, we were able to complete the refurbishment just a few weeks later and the transformation was fantastic.
We would like to say a huge thank you George or Jet Kings Leicester pressure washing service and to Lewis of Pristine Kleen window cleaning who kindly donated their time and services to help improve the balcony space. George and Lewis visited the balcony on Saturday 23rd May, adhering to strict social distancing guidelines of course, and did a fantastic job getting everything cleaned up ready for the plants and furniture to arrive (phase two).
Phase two was then completed a few weeks later with the help of a couple of fantastic volunteers, and again with appropriate social distancing. We are absolutely delighted with the finished product and are so happy that patients will now have a nice, welcoming, relaxing place to sit.Thank you very much to Aluminium Systems Ltd for providing and installing the shading.
This project has cost upwards of £40,000 which was only made possible thanks to generous donations from our fantastic GEMS supporters.
We were approached by staff from the chemotherapy unit who asked us to take on this refurbishment so they could offer more outside space to their patients. This balcony leads off from the day room/waiting room that we redecorated previously. It will be great that the staff can now offer this space to their patients and enable to spend some time in the fresh air.
Thank you for your continued support.
